A Note on Colours

The designs you see on screen are created and proofed on a calibrated display, but every monitor, phone, and tablet shows colour slightly differently. Reds may appear more orange on some screens, blues can shift cooler or warmer, and yellows may look more muted depending on your device's brightness and colour settings. This is completely normal and not a reflection of the final printed product.

On Icing Sheet

The product photos show how your topper looks on screen, but all edible printing uses CMYK ink on an edible surface, while your screen displays colours in RGB light. This means printed colours will always appear a little less vivid and slightly softer than what you see on your device, no matter the material. Icing sheet gives the closest result to the photos, with crisper detail and stronger colour. Wafer paper has a matte, textured finish so colours will appear noticeably more muted. Neither material is an exact match to your screen, but both produce a clear, beautiful result.

On Wafer Paper

Wafer paper has a naturally matte, slightly textured finish, which means colours will appear a little softer and more muted compared to the screen preview. This is the nature of the material rather than a print quality issue. Reds and yellows in particular may appear slightly less saturated. The design will still look beautiful and clear, just with a more understated, natural finish.

Our Recommendation

If bold, vibrant colour is your priority, icing sheet is the better choice for this design. If you prefer a softer look or are placing the topper on a delicate surface like a macaron or a thin sponge, wafer paper is a lovely option.

Applying Your Topper

1. Peel away the backing. If the topper doesn't release easily, leave it open to the air for 10 minutes, or pop it in the freezer for a couple of minutes and it should come away cleanly.
2. For fondant or chocolate: brush a tiny amount of cool boiled water where you want the topper to sit, then press it gently into place.
3. For buttercream: place it straight onto the surface. No water needed.
4. Smooth it down from the centre outward using your fingertips.
5. Need to trim it? A clean scissors or sharp knife works perfectly.

Storage

• Keep your topper sealed in the grip-seal bag it arrives in until you are ready to use it.
• Store flat in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight.
• Do not refrigerate. Icing sheets can become more fragile at cold temperatures, so room temperature is always best.
• You can open the bag to check your topper on arrival, then pop it straight back in until you need it.

Shelf Life

• Icing sheets: 6 months when stored correctly in the original sealed bag.
• Drinks toppers: 18 months.

Drinks Toppers

For the best results, float your drinks topper on a foamy cocktail or beverage. They rest gently on the surface of prosecco, cocktails, or even hot drinks, and stay intact for up to 30 minutes. You can also clip one to the rim of your glass using a mini peg.

Why we only use original designs

A note on copyright and why we do things differently

You might have noticed that Printarelle doesn't sell cake toppers featuring Disney characters, football club logos, TV show artwork, or any other licensed imagery. We know other sites do, and we know it can be frustrating when you're looking for a specific design. We just want to be honest with you about why we made a different choice.

Under Irish and EU copyright law, images, characters, logos, and brand artwork belong to their creators or rights holders. That ownership doesn't disappear because someone adds a disclaimer to their website saying "we don't claim ownership." Using those images on a product you sell, even as a printing service, still constitutes copyright infringement without a valid commercial licence. The disclaimer protects nobody. It's not a loophole.

Rights holders like Disney, the Premier League, and major entertainment studios actively monitor for this kind of use, and it's the seller, not the buyer, who typically faces the consequences.

At Printarelle, every design you see is either original artwork created right here in our Cork studio, or a topper printed from a photo or image that you, the customer, own and have supplied. That's it. It's a simpler, cleaner way to operate, and it means you can order with confidence knowing there's nothing dodgy going on behind the scenes.
